We are so glad you are interested in the Wiccan spiritual path. We know it will enhance the balance and joy in your life.
We would enjoy being your mentors and crafty aunties, but you need to know that most of us are old enough to be your moms or your grandmothers. And because of that, we know how we would feel if our teenaged daughter or granddaughter were hanging out with older women. We would want to know what these women did for a living, where they lived, whether they were good law-abiding people, how they came to be witches, and why on earth they let a young person hang out with them. We would want to know whether our daughters would be safe in the company of these witches.
Because of these concerns we ask that you obtain your parents’ permission to come to our events if you are under 18 years of age. One of us would be happy to arrange to meet or communicate with your parent(s) ahead of time so they can feel comfortable with what you’re doing. You can even bring your mom along to an open event. After all, these events are designed for meeting one another, and assessing whether the energy feels right for practicing magick together. We encourage you to communicate openly with your parents about your life as much as possible, and ask that you respect them and us by being honest with them about your interest in our coven.
How do we feel about having a teen hanging out with our coven? It will depend on your maturity level, really – how articulate you are, how serious you are about wicca, how you view the world (mundane and magical), how you interact with adults, etc. And how your energy feels to us. Our generations are at very different stages of our lives, and obviously have different concerns, priorities, and passions. That’s just the way it is between generations. In the best of worlds, those differences are inspiring and motivating. In the mundane world, those differences can be annoying. But every young woman who is interested in the wiccan path should be given the opportunity to meet us, and we them, and decide from there how it goes.
